At my gym, every new member starts with what we call a “No-Sweat Intro” (referred to as an NSI). It’s a free consultation for anyone interested in what we offer to tour the gym, meet with one of the owners or trainers, and tell us about themselves and why they’re here. About 9 times out of 10, our new members start with a small amount of private training sessions to learn the movements they’ll see in the gym, build trust with our trainers, and get comfortable with this new aspect of their life. But regardless of where they’re starting and where they’re going, we get to know each other personally and make a plan, first. What I’ve noticed over the years is that most people I meet share one common thread when we chat during these NSI’s. Remorse. Now, don’t misinterpret what I’m saying. Not everyone sits down with me over coffee and ends up in tears. There are varying degrees of this emotion with every person I meet with, but it’s almost always there. Right beneath the surface. Why? Because they realized they never pressed “pause”. They got so wrapped up and focused on their career, kids and “accomplishments” that they didn’t realize 20 years had gone by and their lifestyle was changing their body. Now, they have a newfound awareness that maybe they haven’t been as happy as they told themselves they were. They’ve just been busy. They’re frustrated that their clothes slowly keep creeping up in size. That they get winded on the way up the stairs. That their doctor has them on a pre-diabetic diet and now they’re wondering if heart disease runs in their family… Why? Because they took their health for granted. I mean, we’re all invincible, right? Right. Until we’re not. You don’t have to settle for the hand you think you’ve been dealt if you’re unhappy. If you wish you had more self confidence. If you wish you were stronger, and more capable. You’re not supposed to feel “stuck”, and you don’t have to. You can get your confidence back. You can be strong and independent. Your best years can still be ahead of you. But, you have to make a decision that no one is ever going to make for you. If there’s an aspect of your life that you know is making you unhappy, spend some time today and this weekend reflecting on it. Why does it make you unhappy? Who, or what says you have to continue living your life that way? With the right team in your corner, the right people in your life, you can be the best version of yourself. The version that your family and friends deserve. The version that you deserve to know. You’re more in control than you think. Just because something is common, doesn’t mean it’s okay. If you need help with your health and fitness, click here to start that conversation with us. Even if you’re already working out or at our gym, but you just need to sit down over coffee and catch up and get back on track. We care about you, and we want to see you succeed. You don’t have to figure this out by yourself. We’re here to help.
